Rare Antique Kinkozan Tsukuru Japanese Satsuma Vases. Matching pair of stunning Satsuma vases. Approx 26cm ( in) in height & 18cm (7 in) in width at extremes. The Kinkozan family of potters were active from until , when the factory closed. Around , Kobayashi Sobei (, artist name Kinkozan IV) started to export his products together with the Kyoto manufacturer Taizan VIII. The primary market was America. The main production period was approximately under the leadership of Kinkozan V (). Kinkozan family wares are not a true 'Satsuma' but should be classified as Awata Kyo-yaki. here i have for sale is a very interesting item, it is called a Tsuba and was made to fit onto a Japanese samurai sword. this Tsuba has a 70mm. diameter, with a thickness of 4mm. it is formed from some form of metal alloys, that is the only information i have, there are no visible markings. A PAIR OF ANTIQUE JAPANESE ARITA KO-SOMETSUKE PLATES

These are a typical example of the good quality export porcelain that was made in Japan to cater to the western markets after the slump in Chinese export that had occurred during the 17th century. They are 22 cm or 8.5 inches in diameter and is heavily potted to stand the perils of international shipping. The decoration is executed in the slightly muffled shade of Japanese cobalt typical of the period. Within the foot rim we find three marks from the kiln supports - used to stop the flat porcelain pieces to sag or become warped in the heat of the kiln. This is a typical feature on old Japanese porcelain that continues into the mid 19th century however getting fewer and fewer. On later porcelain we would normally only find the marks after one sole support. To the collector it is interesting to note the uneven distribution of the "spur marks", quite different from the perfectly symmetric marks that sometimes are deliberately added on later reproductions Ad ID: Delivery Service Consumer Credit
