We teach a challenging, fun martial art for men and women. Sometimes mislabelled as "stick fighting", Escrima Concepts is a complete system which includes unarmed, sticks, knives, machetes, tonfa and more. Beginner and experienced students are welcome. Don't worry if you have never done any kind of martial arts before, we have friendly patient instructors who will teach you from scratch. By training with us you will get "fighting fit". Instead of making you do hundreds of pushups or punching the wall for hours on end, we get you hitting and moving with a partner from day one, and you will gain a practical working fitness from the movement. Your balance and co-ordination will also improve as a result. You may ask why you need to train with weapons at all, as you don't carry weapons on you. While you might be a law abiding citizen, that doesn't mean everyone else is. Weapons can be concealed in clothing or bags. They can also be improvised from everyday objects. If someone picks a bottle up, that becomes a weapon. A phone or pocket torch in the hand can be used as a palm stick. The best chance of defending yourself against a weapon is to understand how to use them. The classes are held every Wednesday at the Kokoro-no-kai Oriental Arts Centre, Duke Street, Norwich, 6.30pm to 8.30pm. It is a short walk from the city centre and there is plenty of parking available. There's no uniform required. Just turn up in loose comfortable clothing and (clean) indoor trainers. First class is free! Contact Jason or Aletha for further details.
