France origin - 1.30 metres tall - 39 cm wide -28.5 cm deep - weight 33.3 kilograms! Antony displayed in brown Franciscan habit and one of his attributes, the lily (symbol of virginity) - the child Jesus depicted as a small adult.Anthony of Padua (Lisbon, 15 August June ), born as Fernando Martins de Bulhões into a rich, noble family, was a friar who was a theologian and a Doctor of the Church - he is regarded as an important holy person -he is the patron saint of the Franciscan order, lost objects, women and children, the poor, bakers, miners, marriage, travellers and lovers and patron against shipwreck, the plague and fever. He is also invoked by Catholics when objects are gone - from as early as the 13th century the holy Anthony of Padua is known for his help in finding lost objects. Wonderful large church statue of Christ Sacred Heart. Beautiful version in plaster in the colours gold and white, with a sublimely painted face. This statue shows plenty of signs of intensive religious use over the past 100 years, this gives the statue character and a nice patina due to age. The statue was made of plaster, which was common around . The right hand is removable.The devotion to the Sacred or Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is an expression of a specific spirituality, such as it takes shape in the Roman-Catholic church. The honouring of Jesus Christ takes shape out of love and mercy, which are symbolised by Jesus’ Heart. A passage from the Gospel according to John, in which Jesus’s side was pierced by a lance, pouring blood and water, plays a major role in this mystical piety. The heart of the crucified is pierced and it is the source of the sacraments and of the church. For years it stood on an altar in a monastery chapel in the Antwerp region, but unfortunately the time of the monasteries is past and this statue deserves a new home.
