XII, born Antonio Pignatelli (Spinazzola, 13 March – Rome, 27 September ) was the 242nd Pope of the Catholic Church from until his death. He was one of the last Popes born in southern Italy. A member of a noble family of Naples, Antonio Pignatelli was born (fourth of five children) on 13 March in Spinazzola, a family feud in the land of Lucania.
