Pre-Columbian Art and the Post-Columbian World: Ancient

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Braun, Barbara, PUBLISHER: ABRAMS, Until this trailblazing book, now reissued in paperback, much attention had been given to the connection between modern art and indigenous African forms, while pre-Columbian sources of modern art had been largely unexplored. Correcting this oversight, Barbara Braun offers an in-depth look at Paul Gauguin, Frank Lloyd Wright, Diego Rivera, Henry Moore, and Joaquin Torres Garcia and the pre-Columbian forms that provided inspiration for their art, dramatizing the often surprising comparisons in over 300 striking illustrations. Together with an overview of more recent artists who continue to be indebted to ancient American forms and ideas.

  Pre Columbian reproduced Muisca terracotta

This is a really nicely created Pre a Columbian double Jar and spout stirrup vessel typical of Muisca Culture of Columbia.  It was recreated in painstaking detail with patina and manganese deposits.  I believe a series of Pre Columbian art pieces have been made in Britain and this is one of several I have purchased.  Nicely done.  Sits on two pottery rings.  Great for the lower budget collector of pre Columbian artifacts and from a culture not typically seen online.  Great eye catching decor.  Muisca culture is from Columbia circa C to BC.  They were a very large and well devolved pre Columbian confederations of cultures and were larger than most other groups more readily known.  Thought to exist beginning as long as BC. Heavy item for shipping but sturdy.  11 inches long, 8 inches tall, and 51/2 inches deep.  Big boy. Beautifully rendered. See my other Pre Columbian artifacts and unique gifts. Rare Pre-Columbian Figurines in Wandsworth

Rare Pre-Columbian Figurines in Wandsworth

Pre-Columbian artifacts. Two stone statue figurines and a stone face. Kneeling figure 31cm high and max width 7cm, light grey stone, left side of nose chipped. Weight 3.5kg. Standing figure 33.1cm high. Width shoulder to shoulder 14cm. Slight chip on right foot. Weight 2.2kg. Dark smooth stone. Face 8cm high. Width 5cm. Weight negligible~ 0.1kg. Light grey granular stone. These three extremely rare pieces are about years old and are excellent examples of authentic pre-columbian craftsmanship! Two statue figurines and a stone face originating from the Central Valleys of Oaxaca; a region where a series of ancient cultures flourished in successive order. The kneeling figurine is in good condition, however the left side of the nose is chipped. It still remains a remarkable antique and the artistic crafting of the face and its expression is incredibly life-like.The standing figure is equally remarkable. It appears to have a head dress of feathers and the face is in profile. The small stone face is in excellent condition for its age and highly expressive. There is a small hole beneath the chin and one at the back of the head at the top indicating that this piece either belonged to a larger part or was mounted at some time for display purposes. There are also two small holes (nostrils) directly beneath the nose which cannot be seen by the photo angle.Genuine extraordinary pre-columbian artifacts from the region of the Central Valleys of Oaxaca. Without doubt rare artifacts for any collector anywhere in the world and highly representative of the ancient indigenous civilization from which they originate. All 3 pieces are being sold as one item. They are neither duplicates nor reproductions but antique original art forms thousands of years old. Their true value probably far exceeds their buy price due to their authenticity and rarity. Item posted first class, tracked, and the buyer will be required to sign for the item upon delivery. I the seller, am the sole owner of these rare pieces. Questions concerning these artifacts are welcome.

  Pre-Columbian Teotihuacan Heads Mounted and

Pre-Columbian Teotihuacan Heads Mounted and Framed For sale is a set of three Teotihuacan heads mounted on a bed of stones and framed for display. This item was purchased from an estate sale of a college professor. I am not an expert in this area and could not verify the authenticity of the heads.   Dimensions (each end):    19.5" height x 8.5" width x 5" depth   - We accept PayPal.   - We cannot ship to APO/FPO & PO boxes. - We do our best to accurately describe, via words and pictures.  If there is an issue, please contact us prior to leaving feedback as our goal is to have satisfied customers thru excellent service.   Background: Teotihuacan was a pre-Columbian Mesoamerican city located in the Valley of Mexico, 30 miles northeast of modern-day Mexico City. The name Teōtīhuacān was given by the Nahuatl-speaking Aztec centuries after the fall of the city meaning "place where gods were born". The city reached its peak in AD 450, when it was the center of a powerful culture whose influence extended through much of the Mesoamerican region with a population of about people. The Teotihuacan heads were probably used as personal totems, funerary figures or token sacrifies.

   REPLICA Of Pre Columbian/Meso american

  REPLICA Of Pre Columbian/Meso american

You are bidding on this PRE COLUMBIAN/MESOAMERICAN REPLICA TERRA COTTA "BULL PITCHER" From an estate sale, this is a very unique item.  It is in very good condition, but does have some chips and fleabites consistent with terra cotta pottery.  This is a hand crafted, terra cotta pitcher that is shaped like a bull.  It is hand painted on both sides with flowers, leaves and vines and it wears some sort of  necklace.  It is engraved on the bottom "VITORINO", which I am assuming to be the artist or maker.  It measures approximately 8" across from snout to edge of handle (which is the tail), 8-1/8" tall to the top of the ears, 4-1/4" deep and the bottom diameter is 3-1/8".  After a lot of research, I was not able find any information on this piece or the name "Vitorino" relating to this piece.  I did consult a pottery expert who explained that it appears to be in the Pre-Columbian/Mesoamerican style, but that it looks like a replica.  A very unique and interesting piece to add to your collection. I am not an expert and the condition I have listed is only my opinion based on the criteria listed below.  Therefore, please review all pictures carefully prior to bidding to form your own opinion of the item's condition and if you have any questions, please e-mail me.   Payment is due within 48 hours of end of auction, unless prior arrangements have been made please. Thanks for looking.                                                                                                  MINT:   Like New or New EXCELLENT:   Pre-owned, but like new with very minor wear, if any (small scratches or abrasions which are barely noticeable) VERY GOOD:   Pre-owned and shows some wear (scratches and/or abrasions, light crazing, small chips/flea bites) consistent with age of item GOOD:   Pre-owned and shows wear such as heavy utensil scratches and/or abrasions, fading paint and/or gild, etc. FAIR:   Pre-owned or used and shows considerable wear such as crazing, chips, cracks, many scratches or abrasions, etc.
