The human hand image is common throughout southwest on canyon walls and near abandoned Native American dwellings as well as throughout North America both in petroglyphs and pictographs. It is thought by tribal elders and scholars to symbolize healing, love, spiritual or significant areas, or a highly spiritual person or shaman. In the case where they contain various spiral designs on the palm, migration or transition is thought to be the most plausible meaning. We may never know. This is part of the mystery and wonderment that makes these ancient works of art and forms of communication so fascinating! ►This piece was hand-crafted with polymer clay and special hand-blended pigments. I am very fortunate in that I get to visit many petroglyph sites since I live in New Mexico. I love to sketch and take photos of these mysterious images from the past and ponder what purpose the ancient people had for doing them and their meanings. Handmade in the spiritual heart of New Mexico! ►The Southwestern Thunderbird legend is derived from the common belief that the creature creates storms and the beating of its enormous wings causes thunder and stirs the wind. Lightning was believed to flash from its eyes or beak. The Sioux Indian name for the Thunderbird is is Wakya which translates as wakha, meaning "sacred" and kiya, meaning "winged". The Thunderbird was believed to live in nests of stone on the tops of high mountains which were constantly shrouded in clouds. The mortal enemy of Thunderbird was the Great Serpent who lived below the waters.The lightning bolts of the Thunderbird were used to try and tame him. ►This piece was hand-crafted with polymer clay and special hand-blended pigments. Hello! I am an experienced spiritual healer who, after a change of location, has settled here in Surrey and is now ready to resume taking bookings starting from the second half of May .
