Welcome to Passion d'Orient: The term Kazak is used generically to refer to a mixed group of rugs from various regions of the Caucasus. Kazakh rugs from the 19th century were knotted entirely in wool. The velour rug was long and glossy, with large coloured geometric-type designs that varied according to the area in which they were produced. During the 20th century, the beauty both of the colours and of the original decorative designs was rediscovered. They were still being made from memory by women who passed on the craft from mother to daughter, handing this great tradition down through the centuries.
