Handmade, early-twentieth-century dark wood bureau (writing desk)

Lovely dark wood bureau, handmade in America in the early twentieth century. This rustic piece is a wonderfully compact, space-saving desk that can also serve beautifully as an accent piece in an entryway, dining room, lounge, or hall. Its simple lines and irregular staining carry all the character of an item made by hand for one's own home. There are even still light guidelines visible, where the craftsman measured to attach the different pieces together! Some scuffs and marks commensurate with age. Could easily be adapted to a different look simply by substituting different drawer handles. Small writing bureau in the Georgian style. Original brass filigree handles, brass hinges and locks. Leather inlay on writing slope, interior has compartments and 2 small drawers with brass button handles. Cabriole legs. A lovely little piece which would be ideal for a home office, under the stairs or in a hall way. Clean with no wood worm. A vintage item from the '70s I believe, this bureau has been painted a dark grey and been stencilled with a hexagon design to give it a fresh and modern new look. The leather handles on the drawer and also the desk lid complement the mid century modern design whilst also making it a functional piece, you can easily lift down the lid no problem, often a problem with old bureaus. The bottom compartment has 2 sliding doors, providing extra useful storage for larger items. Finally the bureau has lovely dansette tapered legs, which give it that mid century feel.
