My approach to teaching differs from conventional schools and colleges in so far as I do not follow a rigidly structured syllabus. Neither do I expect students to learn to read music as a lot of music for the guitar can be played using chord charts and a system known as tablature. I spent a number of years studying classical guitar with a tutor from the Trinity College and I have a Teaching qualification (Certificate in Education and Training parts one and two) also known as a Further Education Teacher's Certificate. I gained most of my playing experience on the 'folk' scene and I use the folk learning process in my lessons. I have attended a wide range of music workshops at folk festivals and the approach to teaching in these sessions is very much hands on and this is the method I employ in my music sessions. I am a guitarist and bass player and I spent a number of years studying classical guitar with the Trinity College. I have a teaching qualification (Adult and Further Education Teacher's Certificate) and I have been involved in community music and the folk scene here in Newport for about 15 years. My teaching style is based on patience and a student centred approach. I focus on the teaching of music theory and all students are provided with a thorough introduction to this subject at the outset. I focus on the fundamentals such as chords, scales and intervals and ear training since once these are in place students are able to work a lot of tunes out for themselves. I encourage students to practise regularly and to attend music workshops. 'Little but often' is the most important. A committment to small amounts of regular practise will ensure that results are achieved. I also say to students that if they want to be successful in their chosen field of music that they need to get to music festivals and team up with other musicians. I regularly attended music workshops at a number of different folk festivals and I found that this greatly enhanced my playing skills. This is part and parcel of the folk learning process. I cover a number of different styles. These include: rock/metal, folk and country, classical and flamenco. I also teach bass guitar and the five-string open back banjo and can run workshops for small groups. Other instruments used in the sessions include the D/G melodeon and the diatonic folk/blues harmonica. The fee is £11 per half hour. 10% discount on block booking. Aria Electric Acoustic Bass Guitar - great condition

Aria full-scale-length electric acoustic bass guitar. All in good playable condition and working as it should. I bought it for my wife for Christmas. She is learning on a short-scale bass and wanted to try a full size acoustic one (so she wouldn't have to plug in for practicing). This is just too big for her.
