In November , UNESCO celebrated the centenary of Joan Miro's birth with an international symposium on “Miró and the Arts”, an exhibition of his works and the unveiling of the commemorative medal in the presence of his friend and fellow Spanish artist Antoni Tàpies, who designed the commemorative medal on offer here.The Miró medal’s irregular shape evokes an archeological relic, inscribed "Joan Miró, UNESCO Homenaje" on one side and "" on the other. Both sides bear Tàpies’s hallmarks: crosses, inexplicable signs, references to graffiti, with suggestions of holes, tears and incisions.
