General Puppy Health All pups will follow a basic training regime from birth. Pups will be given worming treatment (as routine precaution) at and 12 weeks, thereafter it is generally advised new owners continue every 3mths for life. We advise new owners arrange an initial veterinary appointment with their preferred practice to register their pup and have their first health check. Your vet will start your puppy on a course of vaccinations against the four main infectious diseases: Canine Distemper Hepatitis Parvovirus Leptospirosis They can receive their first vaccination from approximately eight weeks. Your vet will usually charge only one fee for the vaccinations, however they are given 2/3wks apart; hence new owners are responsible for arranging these to ensure the pup receives the same brand of vaccination between appointments. All of these diseases can be fatal, so after its first course of vaccinations, your puppy will need regular re-vaccination or, where appropriate, regular tests to see if vaccination is required. Talk to your vet to see how often these are needed. Keep the dog vaccination certificates safe as you may need to show them when at boarding kennels, dog training classes or if you take your dog abroad. Until your puppy is fully vaccinated, you should not take it anywhere where it might come into contact with dogs or ground that may be infected, but you can take it out in your arms or the car to get it used to different places and situations. Your puppy will also need regular worming and treatment for fleas and ticks, so follow the advice of your vet. You may also want to have your dog vaccinated against Kennel Cough. Your vet can advise you on this. Micro chipping It is now mandatory throughout the United Kingdom for all dog owners to have their dogs microchipped and recorded with a government compliant microchip database such as Petlog. Pups will leave microchipped and recorded by the time they are eight weeks old. When buying a puppy you will be provided with microchipping documents which will allow you to transfer keepership on the Petlog database. All dogs must still wear an ID tag.
