THIS IS AN INTERESTING OLD TEA CADDY THAT NEEDS A LITTLE TLC TO THE LID WHICH, ALTHOUGH CONTEMPORARY WITH THE CADDY POT, NEEDS PERHAPS A SILVERSMITH (OR SOMEONE HANDY), TO REALIGN THE RIM WHICH HAS BENT A LITTLE OVER THE YEARS PREVENTING A CLOSE FIT ON CLOSING. THIS ASPECT, THOUGH, WOULD NOT TAKE MUCH TO DO. AT THE MOMENT THE LID DOES NOT FIT CLOSELY OR TIGHTLY. It was given to my father, who worked on the film 'Oh, What a Lovely War' when Richard Attenborough was the Director, as a thank you for my father's work, at the end of filming. The inscription reads “With Ever Grateful Thanks, Dickie A”. On the reverse is an engraved First World War-type trumpet to commemorate the War, together with the inscription of the film, and dated Brighton (where and when the film was made). The Hallmark as far as I can see is “N.B.” then possibly “& Co” with a Lion and two further hallmarks. The weight is approx 0.65 oz on a jewellery scale but obviously has memorabilia value. The medallion has always been attached to the key fob. There is minimal scratching, even though item never used, please see photos before bidding. A really Super Antique 4 piece silver-plate tea set with Black Bakelite handles and Knobs, these items all have a fine border detail, manufactured probably in the early 's by Viners of Sheffield, each item being stamped with Viners of Sheffield - Made in England - EPNS A1. A very nicely proportioned set consisting of: Tea Pot, Coffee Pot, Milk Jug and Sugar Bowl. All items have been lightly dip cleaned only as were stored for years and badly discoloured, the overall condition is very good for items over 60 years old with slight wear mark from over polishing (see photo) a very elegant set and still very usable.
