THIS IS AN INTERESTING OLD TEA CADDY THAT NEEDS A LITTLE TLC TO THE LID WHICH, ALTHOUGH CONTEMPORARY WITH THE CADDY POT, NEEDS PERHAPS A SILVERSMITH (OR SOMEONE HANDY), TO REALIGN THE RIM WHICH HAS BENT A LITTLE OVER THE YEARS PREVENTING A CLOSE FIT ON CLOSING. THIS ASPECT, THOUGH, WOULD NOT TAKE MUCH TO DO. AT THE MOMENT THE LID DOES NOT FIT CLOSELY OR TIGHTLY. THE CADDY IS DATED IN A CENTRAL CARTOUCHE AREA WHICH ALSO SHOWS THE ORIGINAL OWNERS INITIALS (D.G). This is a beautiful restored mahogany bureau from late 18th century. It is solid mahogany throughout! Thus very heavy. There is restoration and it clearly shows signs of being over two hundred years old but this all enhances the character whilst not affecting the function. It measures 910 wide x high and 540 deep at the deepest point. The fold down lid is fully lockable with original lock and key. All the brassware is original.
