Magz The Guardian Dragon Magz was inspired by a pair of dragons guarding the doors of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church on Easter Road, Leith. This cozy Gothic church was designed by Hippolyte Jean Blanc a Scottish architecht known for his work in the Gothic Revival style. St. Margaret’s was dedicated in but the sculptor who created these two dragon gargoyles remains sadly unknown. Her ancestors have been stood as sentinels at St. Margaret’s for nearly 150 years. Gargoyles and Grotesques by Gravely Gorgeous Hand Crafted in Scotland All of our sculptures are hand-cast from Jesmonite, a strong yet lightweight architectural material which utilises actual stone to create a realistic texture and colour. Our products are currently available in two finishes: Sandstone, a yellowish, heavily textured stone which replicates the majority of building stone here in Edinburgh, and Natural Stone, a pale gray, less textured stone. Each stone is given a patina of age. Our casting and finishing process means that each piece is unique and may differ in slight details to the images shown above. Firstly we cut the bark branches to the length required, then each piece is sanded by hand and then applied to a ply sub frame. To finish the piece we have wrapped a pine border that has been painted black around the outer edge giving you a stunning one off piece of wooden wall art. Firstly we put plains of solid pine wood through the planer to determine the size of the squares then we cut them to the desired length. Each square is then individually sanded and then painted either blue, black, white or grey by hand. Each piece is attached by hand onto a ply sub-frame creating this stunning piece of wall art To finish the piece off we have wrapped a black pine wooden border around the edge of the wall art.
