On 2nd April , the Post Office issued a 5d stamp to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first non-stop transatlantic flight by British aviators John Alcock and Arthur Brown. On offer is a complete sheet of 120 of these stamps that were released as part of the Notable Anniversaries series. Would look superb in a frame on the wall! This sheet also includes a catalogued error (‘missing windshield’) on Row 3, Stamp 4, which increases its value. Alcock and Brown flew a modified First World War Vickers Vimy bomber from St. John's, Newfoundland, to County Galway, Ireland. The Secretary of State for Air, Winston Churchill, presented them with the Daily Mail prize for the first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean by aeroplane in less than 72 consecutive hours.
