Fokko Mees - Afternoon - Woodcut 26x23cm (image) on a thin Japanese paper of 30x26cm. With the monogram fm in the lower right corner of the block. There also signed in pencil and bottom left - in the manuscript of the artist - the hard to read title, 'org, woodcut' and 7/15. This rare leaf with its penetrating enigmatic imagination - both romance and technique - comes from the artist's studio. It has never been framed and in pristine condition.Fokko Alting Mees (Batavia Aix-les-Bains) was a Dutch graphic artist, draftsman, woodcarver, etcher, illustrator and bookbinder designer.Fokko learned the trade at Ferdinand Hart Nibbrig and Toon de Jong and at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. He lived and worked in Laren, Amsterdam, The Hague, Paris and from in Nice. Fokko Mees was a specialist in free graphics, but he also made book illustrations, occasional graphics, ex libris and stamps. He never had to live off his work and his early expressionist woodcuts are rare. Read more
