A History of British Birds. William Yarrell. 4th Edition. Hard back half leather bound

A lovely set of "A History of British Birds" by William Yarrell th Edition) comprising four hard cover volumes. These are in a very good and an extremely clean condition being tightly bound still having not been overly used. They were published by John Van Voorst, London in . Each volume is 6" x 9" tall the total being illustrated by 564 wood engravings between them. Each volume is half bound in red leather, spines having five raised bands from top to bottom, these being in excellent condition and hardly rubbed. Text and decorations on spines and the fronts and backs of each volume are in gold as are the top edges of the pages. Each volume has marbled paper over boards with marbled edges and endpapers. Front and back endpapers are all in excellent condition each with a Foyles of London embossed sticker. Volume I, 646 pp, revised and enlarged by Alfred Newton, . There is ex libris showing a previous owner's name and other personal details and identification on the two marbled end papers in this Volume (photographs 5/6). There is a also dedication on the following page from an owner's mother, dated 17th July . A pencilled quote is at the beginning of the Prospectus and and an errata is present. There is slight rubbing at the base. Volume II, 494 pp, 646 pp, , again revised and enlarged by Alfred Newton and has an ex libris on the left end paper with a previous owner's name on on. There is a small piece of paper missing in the top corner of the title page (see photograph). There are some pencilled notes on the final page of this volume. The back edge of this volume is slightly damaged. Volume III, 684 pp, , revised and enlarged by Howard Saunders, with an errata and again having the same owner's name as in Volumes I and II on the first end piece. Edges of this volume are only slightly rubbed. Volume IV, 531 pp, , again revised and enlarged by Howard Saunders, with an errata and again with the same owner's name as above on the first marbled end piece. This is an extremely attractive 4 Volume set, in excellent condition - an honest description of their condition is offered and is being offered at a competitive price.
