Wednesday 8th April, 7.00pm at HATCH, Homerton. An alternative lecture on C.L.R. James and other writers’ opposition to WWII with James Heartfield, lecturer, journalist and author of Unpatriotic History of the Second World War. In a pamphlet entitled My Friends: A Fireside Chat on the War, C.L.R. James rejected entry into the Second World War and parodied Franklin Roosevelt’s fireside chats “My friends, why does the President want us to fight?.....Tell me, Mr. President, what democracy do I defend by going to fight Hitler? Hitler is a vile criminal and should be driven off the face of the earth. But I have no democracy and the democracy I haven’t got Hitler didn’t take from me. I know all those who have been taking away democracy from me and my people……..all of them aided by you, President Roosevelt…...” To discuss this rare and principled opposition by C.L.R. James and other writers, the education charity WORLDwrite and its Citizen TV station WORLDbytes are delighted to be hosting this filmed public lecture on Wednesday 8th April at 7.00pm at the exciting new venue HATCH, Homerton, a 1 minute walk from Homerton station. The lecture forms part of the charity’s multi-media project on C.L.R. James entitled,‘Every Cook Can Govern: Documenting the life, impact & works of C.L.R. James’ which will culminate in a feature length documentary towards the end of this year. Project volunteers have also been working hard to bring together a whole knowledge portal on C.L.R. James to accompany filmed works for the project and while it is a work in progress are delighted to be launching it on the night. Please arrive in time for drinks and complimentary snacks. Brood mare / companion mare

I am looking for a forever home for me mare, 9 years old, 15'3 cob x (warmblood passport) unfortunately nearly 2 years ago she damaged her deep digital flexor tendon and I have brought her back field sound but she won't be ridden again, unfortunately I have to have her on full livery due to work commitments so is very expensive to keep her as a pet. She is very nice natured (like a big dog) and loves people, she enjoys a scratch and looks grooming with other horses. She can be handled by children and will just follow you around, even after 6 months box rest she was an angel to turn out waiting for her head collar taking of before she ran into the field and on box rest you wouldn't have know you had her there. With her temperament I think she would make a good brood mare but I have never bred from her so nothing proven. A good home is the most important to me I have owned her since she was nearly 2 so is a difficult decision to look for a new home for her. I gave her a bath today () for the first time in months and she was a star.... so easy to have around. My children have handled and riden her. She is not really suitable for novices at this point in her life as she has only just started her education. She is good to ride never had any problems with her she is great in traffic. She is good to load. She really needs love and attention, I think she has had a bad time at some point in her life. She will need time to adjust to her new home and owner, she is very loving but takes time to trust people. She will benefit from things being taken slow and steady, she doesn't like to be rushed.
