For sale is a 16ft wooden clinker built boat by J.W. MACKAY of Ayr. The boat was completely restored in with a new quarter deck and new seating (American oak). The first 4 pictures show the boat after the restoration, the other pictures where taken a few days ago. The boat was used on various film shoots and TV productions in including the forthcoming movie Victoria and Abdul with Judi Dench. During unloading from a trailer some damage had been done and two holes had been punched below the water line. Consequently it was made watertight again by a very reputable boatyard in Arbroath. I stress made watertight with marine ply, NOT professionally repaired. It needs a few planks and ribs replaced and another sand down and varnish to bring it back to its former glory. Once restored I was told that it should be worth around £. The boat is currently in the water on Loch Katrine. Inspection and a test cruise is possible at prior arrangement. Note- Let is a GRP Post Boat based on the Loch Broom Post Boat, a small, clinker-built sailing vessel which was used for delivery of mail to the remote community on Loch Broom, Wester Ross. The hull is moulded in hand laid fibreglass to a sturdy specification, and all fittings are of a high standard. Mast, bowsprit, boom and gaff are in varnished wood, and stays are wire cable. Tan sails, with a reefed furling jib, complete a simple but effective rig, and the boat comes on a purpose built braked road trailer, (fully serviced in August ), and is easy to launch and retrieve. A new 5hp Honda BF5D engine with remote fuel tank was fitted this August by SWBB, where the boat is currently stored, and has a total of 3 hours use. The hull construction allows for the boat to have engine, rudder and tiller fitted onshore before launching, and the shallow draught means the trailer does not require submerging! There is an overall cover, and a detachable folding canopy hood, (new), mounted on a stainless steel frame which can be used with the mast up or removed. Oars and brass rowlocks are included The removable thwart, gunnels and floor boards are in wood, as are the side seats, and protected by Burgess Marine Hydrosol. Below the waterline is antifouled. The tiller and rudder are strong and effective. Her long keel gives considerable space in the cockpit, and like the bilge keels has metal runners mounted to give protection when beaching. This is a very sturdy boat! 2 lockers complete the picture, and included in the sale are various warps, anchor and chain with rope rode, several fenders and boathook. Sadly she has been little used by the first and second owners. A comprehensive handbook gives clear and detailed information about the craft. This very attractive craft gains attention wherever it is seen.
