Also the bridge should be set at a distance of 4 cm from the top of your erhu drum, slightly above the center of the drum for a 9cm drum.  The above is based on some research on the bridge and qian jin to achieve the best quality of sound for a given erhu. Other factors that affect the quality of sound include the pattern of the python skin (in general the larger pattern seems to produce better sound) and the wood  (印度小叶紫檀  India's sandalwood has a high density, and seems to produce good sound resonance, a nd  明清旧料老红木, Ming and Qing dynasties old redwood also is a good choice)  used for the erhu, and also the surface tension of the python skin on the drum.
