GCSE/Secondary School-age English tutoring in Kidlington in
I am a 16-year-old female student at Gosford Hill School in Kidlington, currently studying Psychology, English Literature, Chemistry and Biology at A Level. I am looking to tutor secondary school-age students, either at GCSE level or below, and help them to achieve their best possible grade in English. At GCSE, I was able to attain an A* in both my coursework and my examinations, which I hope will enable me to push students to be the best that they can, as I know exactly what the examiners are looking for. As well as this, I am an attentive and focused individual, which enables me to push students to the best of their ability at a steady but suitable pace. I am also highly dependable, and, if a lesson is cancelled for any reason, I will email some suitable work for your child to complete as a replacement. I have previous experience as a English tutor, as I have assisted in a year 11 English Language class twice a week for the past month. I have also recently attended a meeting about the new English specification for GCSE, and have been made aware of the significant changes in content, such as the new grading system and the removal of tiers (e.g higher and foundation). For English lessons, I will be charging £10 for an hour, in which I will focus on the student's weaknesses. Lessons will consist of three parts: teaching, practicing and assessing. The lesson will begin with me teaching a topic that the student struggles with, for example, creative writing. I will explain the topic in depth, with examples to reinforce this newly-taught knowledge. The student will then complete a series of worksheets, with my guided help, based on the topic we cover in that lesson. At the end of the lesson, the student will complete a short test based on the topic covered, which will then be marked with the student present. I will be offering a free taster session for parents to assess my suitability for their child, and also for me to determine the working grade of the child. In this taster session, I ask students to complete an hour long exam-style test, testing spelling, vocabulary range and general knowledge. While the student is completing the test, I will look through any workbooks, past exams and other work completed by the student, in order to assess their working grade and any weaknesses they may have. I will mark this test, compile a list of areas the student may have struggled in, and then plan my method of teaching accordingly. This list will then be combined with a list of topics the student may not feel confident in, which will become the content for me to go over during the year. I will also leave space to re-teach anything the student learns in school and does not feel completely happy with at the end of each lesson, and will set a homework task weekly. If the student is unsure about anything, they will be able to contact me at any time by emailing or texting me. Because I am a full-time student, I am unfortunately unable to travel to the homes of students and require students to have lessons in my house. I live with my mother, who is a retired midwife, in the easily-accessible village of Kidlington. If parents wish to, they can stay and watch their children being tutored. Please do not hesitate me regarding any questions you may have. I am available to speak to on the phone between and on weekdays and between and on weekends. Rhiannon Parker
