The outside is in very good condition with signs of use which in my opinion don’t take away anything from this beautiful box with nice warm patina. The writing area is lined with black felt. The top writing area borders compartments for the ink jars,of which one with inkwell (not original). In addition, 2 compartments for stamps and the like. The side has a brass pen that can hinge and fits in the brass holder, so that the box can be folded out into the reading position. The wooden holder for the book lies in the front writing area.The drawer is over the entire length of the box and is safeguarded by a brass locking pin.Very decorative in read shelf position.
