Unique British Embassy documents
These are the official documents of Mr Brian Bowley, First Secretary, Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service. I have inherited them. They cover the period from the British Embassy, Saigon, Vietnam during the Vietnam war and the final evacuation of the Embassy when the South was overcome by the North Vietcong. The documents are internal embassy papers, composed by Mr Bowley to other departments, including the British Parliament and the Foreign and Commonwealth office asking for assistance during the dire situation and the process of evacuation. The subject matter includes such things as local staff details, names and pay conditions. There are documents with the details and names of the Ghurka soldiers guarding the Embassy. Also such things as transporting of equipment, abandonment of assets etc. These are quite simply unique, one of a kind official documents in the most troubled of times during a bitter conflict that can never be duplicated or repeated.
