During his stay in Paris he learned of "New York" by Calvin Klein. He was, as he himself later described, "hit as if by a fist " by the intense black and white photographs of Klein. Inspired by this, he shot unromantic images of his surroundings. Not the Eiffel Tower or the Seine but ordinary people in the subway, a dormant clochard, an extreme right-wing demonstration, a military parade etc. "Paris Immortel" eventually changed in "Paris Mortel" and is without a doubt one of the highlights of Dutch photography. The dust jacket has traces of use and, among other things, a small tear on the top left. In the beginning of the book there are several pages loose which is a very common phenomenon for this book. Furthermore, there is a crack on the page of several centimeters.
