Dudson Light Blue Jasperware Sprigged Cheese Keeper or Dome
Dudson Light Blue Jasperware Sprigged Cheese Keeper or Dome - circa Presented for sale is this handsome and unusual Light Blue Jasperware Cheese Dome (or Cheese Bell, Keeper, Dish, or Cloche) with Underplate. It features a very detailed, delicate, and most beautiful Sprigged decoration of “Grape Vine”, a glazed interior of the Dome and the piece is finished off with a Rope Knot Handle. I believe this piece was made in the James Dudson factory in the mid-nineteenth century (as stated on the Auction/Lot ticket attached to the item). The bottom of the plate has a small impressed "star" or “Y” mark and the numbers 303. The cheese dome and plate are in good condition for their age and use, there are however several small chips and a hairline fracture in the centre of the base. Dimensions Dome Measurements: Height 19.5 x Width 19 x Depth 19 cm Platter Measurements: Height 3.5 x Width 26 x Depth 26 cm Overall Measurements: Height 23 x Width 26 x Depth 26 cm Stepped Base diam. 17.5 Condition The piece is in good condition for its age and use, with no major chips, cracks, or marks. As stated the items does have some minor chips, and hair line fracture crack to the base (these have been photographed for your consideration). The whole piece, apart from the white Sprigged decoration, is finely speckled with a light caramel colour which I was told was part of the original design. As far as I can see the Sprigged decoration is whole and undamaged.
