In the early s three Paulus tiles were released:1) Paulus2) Oehoeboeroe3) EucalyptaThese tiles are virtually untraceable and extremely rare. This lot includes the original cliché of Oehoeboeroe, used in the early s to print the outlines of Oehoeboeroe on tiles, which were then filled with the right colours. This cliché comes directly from the relatives of the factory owner who manufactured the tiles at the time. Only one copy exists, and it is really special that it is put up for auction. Additional information: In printing, a metal printing plate known as a cliché was used for printing drawings. To that end the drawing was turned into a negative. This negative was placed on a metal plate on which a photosensitive layer was applied. By exposing the negative to light, the photosensitive layer hardened where the negative was transparent; where the negative was black the layer remained soft. The plate was then immersed in an acid bath. The acid ate away those parts of the metal plate without hardened layer. Read More
