This puzzle jug has a hole in the handle connected through an inner tube he to a hole in tbottom. The unsuspecting drinker who picks up the jug without blocking the hold in the handle will be surprised when the ale pours out of the bottom of their pitcher! The jug is covered with transfers of a clown on each side (believed to be a representation of the English clown, Joseph Grimaldi). In addition, there are a series of labelled cockfighting scenes: ‘A Set To’; ‘A Knock Down Blow’ and ‘The Death’. The base of the jug is marked with Elsmore & Forster’s underglaze stamp and also with 'Warranted Ironstone China’. Height is approximately 9”.
