Winter walking boots - Scarpa Manta GSb - Size 45 (EU) (UK)

Scarpa Manta GSb (B2 for crampon compatibility). Uppers in perfect condition, good tread with just a bit of the shank exposed at the toes (see photos – this is just a bit of rubber wear though and doesn’t affect performance/waterproofness). I'm selling these boots because, after just a few expeditions into the hills, I've had to accept they aren't quite the right fit for me. They would make an excellent pair of winter boots, especially for someone who already has three season boots but wants some stiffer boots for the odd winter outing. They were about £200 new. Google search shows they were originally £80.They were snug but a bit heavy duty for my simple commuting. CORRECTION: The sizes on the label in the shoe are those now given in the heading. I looked up the equivalent UK size on what I believed to be a Shimano web-site. There is no UK sizing in the shoe, probably was on the box I no longer have. Mountain climbing boot, traditional, mens, size 45, plus associated climbing hardware, crampons etc.

These are Dolomite leather mountain boots. My guess is that they are 40 years old and are so solid they will still be around and serviceable in another 40 years, long after many generations of more fashionable boots are landfill. They are not really a walking boot though I have walked in them, for instance up the Cairngorms in winter and my feet were very snug. They are a general high mountain climbing boot. They will take crampons and are also intended for cross country skiing where the boots heft is not an issue. The inners are astonishingly intact. If there was an olympics for boot durability, these would be, although not built for speed, the Usain Bolt of their kind. When you buy these boots you buy not just objects of the highest utility, not just history but the very aroma of an epoch of the highest adventure. If I had the room I'd keep them just to retain contact with that era. These are the boots God would have chosen when creating the universe. In addition are two pairs of adjustable crampons, one deadman belay plate, two ice screws, five rock pitons, one ice hammer, one ice axe and a Whillans sit harness. The main soles have been renewed.
