I am selling this ceremonial dirk on my aunt’s behalf. It belonged to her brother who, as a member of a military pipe band, wore it as part of his full Highland dress. I have more photos than those shown in this advert, including one of him in uniform, wearing the dirk. It is circa 70 years old. Total length of the dirk is 50 cm, when measured from pommel to the tip of the scabbard. The handle is believed to be bog oak, carved in a basket weave pattern and decorated with silvered pins. The scabbard is made of black leather with banding made from solid silver. This is not hallmarked, but anyone with knowledge of silver soldering will be able to see this on the rear of the scabbard. Also, my aunt has first-hand knowledge of the scabbard being decorated. The forged blade is the correct profile for a fighting dirk, but has not been honed, as reflects its ceremonial purpose.
