The sweet iron has started rusting as it is designed to - it's the sweet taste of this that the horses like so I haven't scrubbed it off - the copper then encourages salivation.

Here we have a used 6' inch sweet iron with copper lozenge hanging cheek bit. Made by shires, brought for my horse but accidentally brought the wrong size and because I used it, I cannot return it. Has been used a few times till I realised it was the wrong size, since has been stored in my tack room.   Great bit for starting a horse as the sweet iron encourages salivation and acceptance of the bit and the copper lozenge reduces the nut cracker action seen when using a normal snaffle bit.
