This stunning museum quality side saddle was made in by Peats Jolwyn for Andrew Watt and sons of Edinburgh on a Haynes and son tree. The paper labels on the underside of tree state it was for Mrs Carnegie- this was Louise Whitfield Carnegie wife of the famous philanthropist and steel magnate   Andrew Carnegie.   The saddle is one of a pair and I have confirmed that the matching gentleman a saddle belonging to Andrew is kept at the Carnegie Birthplace museum in Dunfirmline. I was going to take a trip to the museum by offer of the curator to photograph the two saddles reunited but unfortunately have not had the time- it is a trip the new owner would be wise to take to add value and provenance to this side saddle!   The saddles are both mentioned in the autobiography of Mrs Louise Whitfield Carnegie and it is believed that they were made as wedding gifts. The saddle safe displays intricate love knot stitch work, Celtic in design and also displayed on the stone cross marking the burial place of Andrew Carnegie. The saddle is of pigskin with doeskin seat and is a very modern design for the period- possibly an influence of a type of saddle Louise was riding in America before her trip to Scotland. It is the most beautiful and intricate saddle in the best of condition that I have come across, the serge wool panels are still uncovered with linen and it is clear from the condition that this saddle was not used very much! The seat is broad with a slight dip and the panels are beautifully designed and wide and flat that fit our modern horses remarkably well!   The underside of safe has a small pocket with a pair of doeskin gloves, there is a leather 3 fold girth made by Robson and cooper of York, a stirrup strap and a 11.5cm internal foot width safety stirrup with the stamp of Hawkins and wheeler never rust.   The only non original fitting to this saddle is two extra buckle guards to preserve the flaps and a new point strap to attatch a balance girth to (none supplied)   The saddle measures 16" from cutback to rear of cantle and " across widest part of seat.   The leaping and fixed heads are quite broad, well padded and pigskin covered, the safe is padded and fancy stitched.   The saddle offside flap is quite long typical of the period and the tree is a 'compass point tree' (too long points rather than the more modern short point on offside) it offers great stability and the fit is approximately a medium to medium wide with generous flare to the tree points.   The saddle has not been adjusted or altered from original except the safety addition of the point strap under near side flap. This is really a museum piece of huge interest to collector and even moreso to a collector of American history because of its previous owner!   I have priced this saddle below a specialist auctioneers valuation as very sadly have to sell to fund repairs to horsebox, this is a stunning unique one of a kind saddle with genuine provenance and history and I would love it to go to a new owner who will appreciate it for what it represents.   Please contact me for any further pictures or information and I will be glad to put the winning bidder in touch with the curator at the Carnegie birthplace museum.   Please note postage worldwide is an estimate only - overseas bidders please contact me for the correct postage cost to you.   UK postage is via DHL and will be insured Collection also welcome.

Genuine Charro side saddle, made in Mexico, weighs lbs, adult size, not entirely sure of seat size but it is not like a english side saddle and would say it will fit most riders, I am 5'7 and it fits me with loads of room to spare, only been on a horse once for 10 minutes but due to loss of horse I no longer have use for it, comes complete with billet, latigo, cinch, cinch carrying attachment, and another attachment on the back I believe for blankets/bags, can be ridden in astride or side saddle, great for training a horse to go side-saddle, these saddles are often used to perform tricks, and are also used for reining as well as showing, the 3rd pommel is removable, I have been told that a lot of people convert these saddles to near and off side saddles, which is basically done by making a hole for the 3rd pommel to screw into on the off side, very rare item to see in the uk

Absolutely stunning black all wool side-saddle habit.  The jacket is beautifully cut and is of a cut away style showing off the canary yellow wool waistcoat beneath.  Made by Caldene for 'Langstone & Sons Limited' - Labelled 34". I have never worn it, I bought it from a friend who only competed a couple of times in it.  It is absolutely immaculate & looks like brand new!  I have hung on to it but having now sold my side-saddle I cannot see myself ever wearing it....so it is sadly for sale and looking for a new home. There is no absolutely no signs of wear - not around the buttonholes nor around the elastic loop under the apron etc.  It is of a fairly heavyweight wool and hangs beautifully.  The jacket is fully lined with polyester, the apron  is fully lined with heavy cotton.   Please look at the pics to see the quality & condition of this beautiful habit.  You will not be disappointed! Newly made OFF SIDE side saddle for a draft horse. The riders legs go to the right hand side. Size XW Tree, 18" diagonal points. 18"length of Seat, 14"width of seat. This saddle is for a very wide horse. I designed the tree to be flatter and broader to accommodate a true draft horse with no/minimal withers.  This one has a regular stirrup bar, with the counter part stirrup leather. A collaspable iron MUST be used. Imported leather with English sent metal parts, fine suede seat and pommels, wool flocking. This is a non jumping saddle. It is not reinforced enough to absorb the pressure a jumping side saddle demands. This saddle comes with an adjustable stirrup leather and balance strap. You will need to provide a safety iron and girth. I do sell draft girths, 60" upwards if needed, but you will have better idea what size to order once the saddle is on your horse. This was our first saddle, called the 'Malone'. I took them to Beta years ago, they have also appeared at the Side Saddle Nationals for the past 3 years. They are great starter saddles, but I am focusing on our European saddle now, which can be made for a draft horse, but these last few will not be continued. This is a beautiful antique side saddle made by Champion and Wilton.  It is in desperate need of renovation as I have had it stored away in the loft for years.  It deserves some TLC! The seat measures 17.5 ins from the cut back head to the end of cantle.  It has a beautiful quilted seat which is in excellent condition.  The remainder of the leather work around the suede seat does have worm holes but all this leather work would require replacing.  The flap and pommels are in good order and the straps too with the exceptio9n of the near side strap which is alittle dry. This really is a lovely saddle but I will neverr get time to do anything about it so I have decided to sell it as it is taking up space! Please feel free to message me for further photographs or measurements. I dont mind viewing and the saddle could be collected by the purchaser if preferred.
