Details about   Horse Drawn Carriage Veteran Car Spanners

Here is a set of vintage horse drawn carriage or veteran car wheel spanners. I was given these by my father 40 years ago and they have been hanging in my garage all that time. My dad says they date from around and would have been part of a wheelwright or carriage maker tool kit. They will also be suitable for early veteran cars as these had carriage wheels. The largest is 14 inches long and the smallest is 10 inches. I am starting the bidding at a reasonable £ as you will not find these today and will make a great addition to that vintage driving carriage. Please feel free to contact me for further info or pictures.

This Carriage is in Original untouched condition - being purchased by us over 20 years ago and dry stored - we just never got around to having it restored and now we have no horse to fit it and need the space so;its time to move it on. The woodwork and leather work are all excellent - the leather would require some saddle soap or leather softner to make it supple again.;There are no rips to the hood and the leather dash just requires a little stitching to the corner as you can see from the photographs.;It also has its original apron which is also good. The interior as you can see has been home to mice - but all the shape and buttoning is still there so it would be fairly easy to re-upholster.;The carriage retains its original carpet. This carriage has a lovely elegant shape and dimentions and very roomy for comfort; The dainty doors on the sides enables the passengers to be able to get in and out with ease and they retain there original brass handles. It has a leather drop below seat which is also good. There is also a flap opening for accoutrements which at present is just a little stiff but works. The vehicle retains its original iron tyres and the wheels are all good.  The carriage also retains its original leather whip holder. The back wheels are 36" dia and the front wheels are 31" dia. with all brass hub caps.;Floor to rein rail measures 56" approx and the length of the carriage body is approx 9.0ft.;Width across back hubs is 59" and across the front hubs is 53";With the hood in the upright position the carriage is approx 80" high. The width of the inside of the rear seat is 37". The carriage haws eliptical springs, and the rear pair connected at front by central cross spring giving a comfortable ride. This is a very elegant vehicle and rare to find one in such original condition especially with the leather hood in such good condition and also having its original apron. There are no shafts to the vehicle - but should not be a problem to purchase a pair of the shape desired. If you require any more details or measurements let me know.;Restored would be an exceptional vehicle for wedding work - or indeed left as it is for the collector of vehicles. Payment in cash on collection preferred. THIS CARRIAGE IS BEING RELISTED DUE TO TIME WASTED - PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANY OFFER IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY - WE NEED THE SPACE SO SENSIBLE OFFERS WILL OF COURSE BE CONSIDERED - THANKYOU

.This beautiful elegant original little Victorian Carriage has been dry stored for the last 15 years.   Built around – possibly originally as a dainty ladies phaeton and adapted in the very early s to a Victoria Carriage and used as such with Driver and Groom and room for two passengers in the lovely comfortable buttoned seating behind. This Carriage was used and indeed was very popular both locally and across East Anglia for Weddings and very occasionally Carnival Queen transport   for six years before other business commitments   took over and this carriage was “put to bed” The pony we used to pull this Carriage was a 13.3h – so 13.0h to around 14h would be ideal. The Carriage was professionally restored with   new channels and rubbers fitted some 20 yrs ago and has been looked after since and so is in excellent condition apart from some moth damage to the valance below the drivers seat –which could easily be either removed completely – at present it hides the accoutrements bag – or perhaps a black leather one made together with a new drivers seat pad to match which would solve this minor problem.   All other upholstery is in good used condition. The paintwork is a lovely deep maroon plum   being lined out in cream. Wheels channels and rubbers all good. The black hood covered in duck is in excellent condition – being lined with matching upholstery silk.   The brass trim could do with a polish, also the brass whip holder   and pair of reproduction lamps included. The Carriage is fitted with a hand brake – which works well. The lovely deep pinky maroon upholstery is in watered silk and is gently faded to give a softness to the interior and is all in good condition.   The monogrammed pleated valance could be removed if not desired as it is embroidered with the present owner’s initials. The drivers seat pad is removable. The carriage foot-well provides ample legroom and is fitted with black ribbed rubber removable matting.   Also, similar matting is fitted to the driver’s footboard which also has a toe grip. The turntable and detachable shafts are all excellent.   The shafts are trimmed with black patent leather and all stitching is good. Brass tips and double D’s all good.   The shafts come complete with padded storage bags. The hood covering is of black duck and lined with the same silk as the upholstery. The hood can be positioned three ways – down – half way – and fully up for weather protection to the passengers.   Measurements are as follows: Width across back of carriage 46” width across front of carriage 43” Dia. Of back wheels 34” Dia. Of front wheels 23” height of drivers seat from ground 50” height of vehicle with hood fully up 79” height with hood fully down 57” hood height in half way   position 73”. Overall length of vehicle with shafts attached 155” Overall length of vehicle without shafts attached 88”. Width between shafts at tips ave. ”) Overall width at Ds 22” and 26”. Width at tug points 28”.   All measurements approx.. A lovely Victorian Vehicle ready to go – we need the space now and it is time to find a new home.   Please email with any further information you may require.

This gig has been owned and lovingly cared for by a fine Yorkshire horseman for the last 30 yrs. Stored in a dry garage the rubber wheels were replaced at a cost of £800 and has barely been used since. Built maybe 40yrs ago in Dublin by Moorebrothers it is an absolute delight to look at with a beautiful pair of brass candlelights themselves very valuable. The gig is pristine and perfectly balanced, a credit to the owner who sadly passed away recently. He refused to sell it for £ to a lady who mistreated her horses! This is ready for use and to be admired. The price reflects the condition and its attractiveness. Delivery can be arranged at a prearranged cost.

A matching pair of antique, Carriage Lamps with pagoda style vents on top and white metal bands around the stem inscribed "Patent No ". There is a small brass collar just under the lower band. The word 'PATENT' also appears on a raised lug on the unglazed side of the lantern (photo 5). Dimensions: Overall length 48cm, Lantern box width 13cm x 13cm, Weight: 1.75 Kg each The bodies of the lamps are in sound condition, the paint job is not original and is chipped/scratched in places. The vent stack on the top has taken some wear in its time (see photos) and the top of one appears to have been replaced - see picture 4. The clear glass windows (front and side aspect) are bevelled and contained within bright metal frames. The small, circular, red glass window (rear aspect) has a copper/brass coloured surround. All the glass is in good condition apart from some superficial scratches on the clear windows which can be seen in the photo details (all windows are shown). The rear window hinges downwards to give access to the interior (see final pics) which is lined with copper reflectors all in good condition. The lamp has been converted for electric lighting, the cable exits via a hole in the bottom of the stem. The oil burner holder (seen in last picture) appears to have been a previous conversion.
