Hollow Mouth Eggbutt Horse Bit A single jointed plain hollow mouth bit with eggbutt sides and flat rings. The mouthpiece is solid and of medium thickness. The eggbutt sides prevent pinching of the lips. Acts in addition to the corners of the lips, on the tongue and the bars.   BIT’s All horses mouths and tongues are different and vary in size and type depending on your horse. MEASURING Mouthpieces or bits are measured in inches or centermeters.   This is dependant on the manufacturer of the mouth piece or bit.   To measure, straiten the   bit and measure from the inside of the loosering or cheek piece to the inside of the mouth. FITTING Bits should be adjusted so as to wrinkle the corner of the mouth.   There should be no more than ¼” (5mm) play on either side.

An eggbutt bit would be less suitable if your horse is prone to leaning or taking hold of the bit The Mullen Mouthpiece The Mullen mouth is a very mild bit, it is an unvarying mouthpiece which means the pressure on the mouth doesn’t change much, as it is a fixed mouthpiece. The bit puts pressure on the tongue and lips (corner of the mouth), it does use slight pressure on the bars depending on the size of your horses tongue. This bit is very useful for those horses who have a very soft mouth and don’t like complicated mouthpieces, it may also be useful for horses who back off the contact and need that extra bit of confidence in the bit.
