It is fixed to the girth or to a roller on each side of the horse. Like all training aids, it is important not to fix it too short, especially in the beginning of the workout. Details about   Brown nylon side reins with elastic inserts

This is a pair of brown nylon side reins with brown elastic inserts. I cannot find a size on them anywhere but they measure 69" from clip to the end when laid flat or 46" from clip to end when folded back as they would be when attached to the girth/surcingle. There is lots of adjustment and I have used them on both a 15hh pony and 15.3 horse. They are in good used condition. There is a little surface rust on one of the buckles which in no way affects its use and there are no signs of fraying or other damage. I try to keep the postage as low as possible but if you live in the more far flung parts of the UK, I may need to pass the extra postal charges onto you. I am having a bit of a tack room clear out so please see my other items, I will combine postage wherever possible.
