“Equi-Snap Lead Rope” Made ong>toong> ong>beong> safer for horse & handler   The Idea In my job as a farrier I have come across situations where a normal lead rope on a horse has ong>beong>en unsafe for both horse and handler. When the horse is tied up, it is often tied ong>toong> a baling twine so that if the horse pulls the twine breaks, but this can often ong>beong> ong>toong>o strong and therefore doesn’t break. If it does break the horse bolts with a long lead rope flying around which could get caught up or cause the horse ong>toong> tangle or trip. The other hazard of an ordinary lead rope is when leading the horse in from the field or stable. There have ong>beong>en incidents where the horse has bolted and the rope has wrapped round the hand of the handler causing serious damage and I have even heard of one fatality where the person was dragged and then kicked in the head by the horse. The idea of the “Equi-snap” lead rope is that ong>aboutong> 30cm down from the clip ong>toong> the bridle there is a link that will break if ong>toong>o much tension is put on it. The link is basically two rings that are linked ong>toong>gether with a cable tie which can break and then ong>beong> easily replaced. (Available from most hard ware song>toong>res) By having the breaking point 30cm down the rope means that there is still something ong>toong> grab hold of without ong>beong>ing dangerous ong>toong> the horse. Instructions The difference ong>beong>tween this lead rope and others is that it has two clips ong>toong> it, and that it is joined ong>toong>gether by a cable tie ong>toong> the two round rings. Attach the clip that is closest ong>toong> the two rings ong>toong> the head collar. The clip at the other end of the rope is ong>toong> attach ong>toong> the head collar or ring in order ong>toong> bring the lead the horse back, but ong>beong>ing aware that if the horse pulls again it won’t snap. This clip can also ong>beong> used if you are in a situation where you don’t want the lead rope ong>toong> break apart.
