Details about Unique vintage dog-head whip with carved
You are bidding on a very unusual and possibly unique hand-crafted vintage hunting whip. It's stoutness and the hound-head suggests it was probably made for and carried out Beagling. The composition of the wood suggests it is probably Hazel - a branch cut from a tree and utilised into a item with great character. The shaft is 3" (nearly 8 cm) in circumference. It is decorated with a hand-carved chevron pattern reminiscent of the braiding on the shaft of a leather-covered whip. The entire whip from top of the dog's head to the bottom of the shaft is cm), to the bottom of the keeper cm). It has its original leather keeper with its marks of usage (though still perfectly sound and usable) but has been rewhipped, as shown in the photographs. The hound head has two small black glass eyes and is 4 3/4" long ((12 cm). It has such character and is a very tactile piece, polished by handling and many many years of use.
