This bit is made out of Stainless Steel with a nylon covering on the mouthpiece. The Eggbutt The eggbutt is a fixed cheek bit, this may be useful for horses that are a bit unsure of the bit as it doesn’t move around to much in the mouth, it should encourage the horse to stretch into the contact. An eggbutt bit would be less suitable if your horse is prone to leaning or taking hold of the bit The Mullen Mouthpiece The Mullen mouth is a very mild bit, it is an unvarying mouthpiece which means the pressure on the mouth doesn’t change much, as it is a fixed mouthpiece. The bit puts pressure on the tongue and lips (corner of the mouth), it does use slight pressure on the bars depending on the size of your horses tongue. This bit is very useful for those horses who have a very soft mouth and don’t like complicated mouthpieces, it may also be useful for horses who back off the contact and need that extra bit of confidence in the bit. Cottagecraft Hollow Mouth Gag Snaffle (Actual picture here) This hollow mouth loose ring gag is also known as a Balding Gag. This gag has loose ring cheeks which are useful if your horse leans on the bit. This gag looks like an ordinary loose ring bit, but it has two vertical holes in the ring; one at the top and one directly underneath. This bit is used with gag cheeks (either leather or nylon) that thread through the holes. The Balding gag should be used with two reins, the first rein should be attached to the actual bit ring and then the second should be attached to the rings on the gag cheeks. This bit can be useful if your horse goes on the forehand or is heavy on the front end; it should encourage your horse to lift up off the forehand and ride from the quarters. This bit has a hollow mouth piece which is lighter in the horses mouth. Hollow mouthed bits are milder than the solid mouth pieces because they are thicker in diameter and therefore distribute the pressure over a larger area.
