This is a 4.5" inch stainless steel, chifney (anti rearing) bit which comes with the leather couplings which you can use to attach it to a head collar. Though I have described it as used, I have never actually used it so it is in great condition. What is unusual about this one is its small size. To be clear I measured at the widest point to the inside of the ring on each side. Please contact me if you would like to check any other measurements. I am having a bit of a clear out of my bit box so please see other bits also for sale. I will combine postage wherever possible. I always try to keep postage charges as low as possible but if you live in the parts of the UK that incur additional postal charges I am afraid I will need to pass these on to you.

The Chifney, also known as an anti rearing bit, is a horse bit designed for leading spirited horses and ponies. The Chifney attaches to a sliphead or headpiece, and has a single loose ring for the lead rope to attach to at the back of the horses chin. The thin bit with V shaped mouth will dig into the horses tongue should the horse try to rear or pull, and can be very effective. The anti rearing bit should be used with care as with any severe type of horse bit and is for leading only. Chifney bits are often only seen for sale in standard and large sizes, but they should be sized as any other bit, the same size as your horses normal bit size should be used to achieve correct fit.
