It has a horn handle at one end with crosses etched on top and bottom. wooden shaft with plaited leather at end near horn, and tightly wound stringing at other end with a leather loop. There is no damage on the crop which measures inches not including leather loop. A nice item.

Details about   Unique vintage dog-head whip with carved

You  are bidding on a very unusual and possibly unique hand-crafted vintage hunting whip.  It's stoutness and the hound-head suggests it was probably made for and carried out Beagling.  The composition of the wood suggests it is probably Hazel - a branch cut from a tree and utilised into a item with great character. The shaft is 3" (nearly 8 cm) in circumference.   It is decorated with a hand-carved chevron pattern reminiscent of the braiding on the shaft of a leather-covered whip. The entire whip from top of the dog's head to the bottom of the shaft is cm), to the bottom of the keeper cm).   It has its original leather keeper with its marks of usage (though still perfectly sound and usable) but has been rewhipped, as shown in the photographs.  The hound head has two small black glass eyes and is 4 3/4" long ((12 cm).  It has such character and is a very tactile piece, polished by handling and many many years of use. A rare piece which would make a wonderful present for any dog lover or anyone connected with hunting and outdoor pursuits. This is a vintage hunt whip with a plaited leather lash. It has a horn handle with criss cross carving underneath. I think the collar is steel -it is not hall marked.  The collar has a small crack which appears to be superficial. It does not affect its integrity. I have tried to show this in the photos.It is wooden not plaited leather like the swaine ones are. It has a few marks and scuffs obviously because of its age and use. The binding is original as far as I'm aware, still in very good condition and is sound. It measures approx 21" along the length of the cane. Mum collected walking sticks and crops and other than the fact she had it for several years I don't know any more about it. Thanks for looking
