Born in Edinburgh in (), I was introduced to woodworking at an early age in my grandfatherās workshop. Throughout my childhood I could always be found in the garden shed with some blocks of wood, constructing some early early creations. I left school at the age of 16 with good qualifications and advice to follow a different career to the one Iād already set my heart on. However, I decided to fulfil my passion of working with wood and trained as a carpenter in a local firm in Balerno. My participation in intricate and specialised designs encouraged a great respect for and understanding of wood, taking it beyond its expected limits in terms of both craftsmanship and finish. In (), following a paralysing illness (Guillain Barre Syndrome) which unfortunately left me with some residual weakness and pain in my feet, I was unable to return to carpentry as a full time profession. Having a great devotion to working with wood, I was determined to carry it on, which led me into the art of woodturning and carving which has been entirely self-taught. I GET INSPIRATION FROM EVERYWHERE, MOTHER NATURE EVEN THE WEATHER, EVEN FROM A WALK WITH THE KIDS AND PAYING ATTENTION TO THE NATURE AROUND ME. SOMETIMES INSPIRATION COMES FROM A COMBINATION OF COLOURS; SPOTTING REALLY NICE STATIONERY IN A SHOP OR EVEN A GLIMPSE OF DIFFERENT SHAPES AND COLOURS MERGING WHEN PASSING AN ARTISTICALLY LAID OUT FRUIT AND VEG STALL. -------------------(Baked Beans too give you idea of scale.)------------------- Last picture shows Andy Murray being presented Freedom of Stirling award, one of Scott Irvines scultures. SCOTT IRVINE & Andy Murray. Iām really pleased that Andy Murray was presented with one of my sculptures as part of his Freedom of Stirling award. The sculpture was a wooden discus on a slate base and the fused glass discs had an outline of Stirling castle on them. This was made as part of a collection of my work that was commissioned by the Lord Provost of Stirling. The collection was to mark the 700th Anniversary of the battle of Bannock-burn. I knew that the discus sculpture was for a special gift, but had no idea it was for Andy Murray! -----------------------------------(Ā£300) (No Offers)----------------------------------- Ad ID: Delivery Service Consumer Credit
