Further Information The previous Cyrus 7 amplifier carved an enviable reputation in our industry for delivering first-class sound quality from within its compact, stylish Cyrus chassis. The ‘impossible’ brief for the Cyrus 8 amplifier was to take this formula even further, with more output power, higher output current, better power supply rejection, improved PSX-R upgrade and more sophistication in the control system. In the process of upgrading these performance ideals it was also appropriate to review the sound performance of the amplifier to establish the sound signature of the ‘8 series’ of products. Higher output power - They said it couldn’t be done! The Cyrus 8 delivered the most power yet from our chassis. Despite the power amplifier delivering a true 70W+70W RMS power into 8 ohms, no compromises have been made elsewhere in the amplifer. True to the Cyrus tradition the chassis also houses a traditionally designed power supply featuring an oversize 330VA power transformer and extra-large electrolytic reservoir capacitors. The performance gains in the Cyrus 8 have been possible through new higher efficiency power amplifier circuitry, new thermal management techniques and a higher current output stage. High efficiency power amplifier – Dual charge pumps and linear post-regulators increase the voltage and stabilise the power supply available for the voltage amplifier stage, eliminating any trace of power supply ripple and noise, with no sag under load. The extra headroom that this provides swings the current amplifier further towards its rails, giving a full 70W 8 ohm performance. Higher current output stage - When driving real music into a real loudspeaker load, massive currents are demanded from a power amplifier stage. For the Cyrus 8 our designers have effectively doubled the peak current capability of the power amplifier and halved its output impedance to enable a far greater transfer of energy from the power supply into difficult speaker loads. Audiophile component specification - In the Cyrus 8 particular attention has been paid to every single signal processing component within the preamplifier stage. Both active and passive components were selected without budgetary compromise and through exhaustive listening tests, delivering an unprecedented level of transparency to the sound.
