COMPLETE UNDERWATER CAMERA SYSTEM Complete system comprising a Panasonic Lumix TZ-10 high-end compact digital camera sporting 12.1mp, 12x Optical Zoom with a 3.0 inch LCD which comes complete with THREE genuine Panasonic batteries and TWO chargers, a dedicated Panasonic 40mt rated housing, and auto flash unit. THE CAMERA: The TZ-10 is silver has a host of features and has GPS built-in. It can also capture x720p HD video, which can be saved as either a Motion JPEG file or in the more advanced AVCHD Lite format. Whichever way you view this offer, it’s an impressive set of kit. 3 batteries means one can get in a full day’s underwater photography in when away from a power source for recharging. Additionally, the 2 chargers mean that 2 sets of batteries can be charged up simultaneously. Included with the TZ-10: 8GB SDHC memory card. Three genuine Panasonic batteries. (these normally retail at £40+ each) Two chargers & mains cables. Stiff leather case which fits the camera snuggly (not shown in photos) THE HOUSING: The Panasonic housing is dedicated to the TZ-10 and is safe to 40+metres and, like the camera, is in excellent condition. It has never flooded even on a dive to 55 metres there was not a hint of leakage. This depends solely on keeping the gasket seal perfectly and utterly clean and lightly greased. Even the tiniest grain or speck will cause a leak and it’s because I have been meticulous each time the housing is opened and resealed that no leakage has ever occurred. There are a couple of vague scratches on the BACK of the unit which are invisible underwater and, in any case, do not interfere with image taking in any way. ALL camera functions are available via the system of buttons on the back panel of the housing. Included: Spare gasket/sealing ring. Silicone grease. Silica-gel pouches. Spare clip-on flash diffuser (for use when external flash not used) Fibre-optic coiled-coil flash sync cord. Heavy-duty coiled-coil clip-on safety lanyard. THE FLASH UNIT: Again in full working order. The flash unit triggers automatically by picking up and transmitting the flash from the camera’s internal flash via a fibre-optic link cable (included). The end of the fibre-optic cable is attached onto the outside of the housing which means the housing is not penetrated in any way. As with the camera-housing, the unit has never flooded. The battery compartment is the only watertight ‘openable’ compartment so that the flash circuitry is full waterproof. Uses 2No. AA batteries, but please note batteries are NOT INCLUDED. This is truly a superb basic underwater camera system It has produced some superb still pictures and some excellent video footage which has been incorporated into a full-length movies of some of the dive expeditions it’s been taken on. That may sound as though it’s had a lot of use, but not really as the usage has only been on once-a-year foreign trips in tropical waters over 3 or 4 years, so the whole system is in very good condition. I bought all the components separately and have had great results with the full system – see my example photographs. The substrobe is operated by a slave sensor, so I have blacked out the inside of the camera housing to stop any ‘ghosting’ effects from the internal camera flash. When the internal camera flash fires, the fibre optic cable bridges the internal flash to the slave sensor to fire the substrobe. I made up substrobe diffusers simply using plastic milk cartons which perform excellently (included in the package). Otherwise, the substrobe is over-powering without any diffusion. The camera itself is in great condition and while it is not the most current of digital cameras (5 megapixel), it takes excellent shots and can be operated in manual mode as per any standard semi-automatic camera. The Epoque wide angle lens conversion provides great underwater wide angle photography options and screws onto the housing as a ‘wet’ lens – so can be removed while underwater as needed. The camera itself has an excellent macro setting for closeup shots, as close as 5-10mm, so no additional macro lens is required for those close up’s of tiny marine organisms. Note: the re-chargeable batteries need replacing as they no longer hold a charge – I have seen them on google for £7.99. I have tested the camera using standard Duracell batteries and it works fine. I would recommend the user downloads the Olympus Camedia C user manual to understand how to operate this camera in semi-automatic (P) mode to gain the best results. While I have submerged the camera housing before listing to leak test (which was fine), I would recommend any user replacing the main O rings. You will need to apply silicon grease AND ALWAYS ENSURE YOU PLACE A SILICON DESSICANT PACK IN THE HOUSING. I have previously purchased all of my spares (O rings, silican grease, silicon dessicant etc.) from Cameras Underwater by mail order. A fantastic economical package for those progressing from point-and-shoot for high quality underwater photography and who do not have the budget for a brand new set-up.
