Antique thC iron bound church collecting box
This is an 18th/19th century church collection box. It is made of heavy solid oak, with a hinged, lockable lid. There are two locks, but I do not have the keys. There are two slots in the lid to accept coins. Originally, it appears, from screw marks, to have been screwed to a wall in a church for security. Internally there are two compartments. The underside of the lid has a makers mark, of T. JEWITT of Oxford. The box is overlaid with ornate cast iron work, of good quality. I have found a reference to this box being presented for sale, some years ago, to Bonhams London auction house. It is a rare and unusual box. I am happy to prepare for overseas delivery, only if you arrange courier.
