Chomskys Minimalist Program: Zahlreiche Wissenschaften versuchen immer wieder ihre theoretischen Ansätze zu minimieren um universal möglichst viele Aspekte abzudecken. Auch im Bereich der Grammatik, genauer gesagt der so genannten Generativen Grammatik, sollte ein Anstoß zur Minimierung aller bestehenden Konstituenten vorgebracht werden. Einer der ersten ausbuchstabierten Versuche dessen scheint zwar von Noam Chomsky selbst zur Bedingung der Minimalität getroffen worden zu sein, jedoch folgten erst noch Gedanken zum Minimalismus von Rizzi in der Theorie der Relativierten Minimalität, die in diesem Rahmen von Bedeutung sind. Dieses wird hier allerdings vorausgesetzt und nicht näher darauf eingegangen, falls nicht unbedingt notwendig. Mit seinem Minimalistischen Programm (MP) versuchte Noam Chomsky nun gleich zwei Ansprüchen gerecht zu werden. Auf der einen Seite nahm er die Annahmen der Universalgrammatik (UG) als grundlegend. Das bedeutet, dass grammatische Phänomene für verschiedene Sprachen denselben Erklärungen unterliegen. Anspruch einer UG ist es somit, 'von endlichen Mitteln unendlichen Gebrauch machen' zu können. Was allerdings das Minimalistische betrifft, versucht Chomsky auf zweierlei Art, diese zu einer Theorie zu verflechten. Program nennt er es nun allerdings deswegen, weil er es noch nicht für eine ausgereifte Theorie hält. Bis heute haben die verschiedenen Versuche nicht zu dem gewünschten Erfolg geführt. So bestehen verschiedene Ansatzpunkte, die jedoch meist bald teils oder vollkommen widerlegt werden. Wissenschaftliche Lücken, die nicht geschlossen werden können, Eliminierung von Daten, die schlicht unzureichend sind sowie teilweise scheinbar willkürlich getroffene Festlegungen erschweren eine vollkommen fundierte Version des Minimalismus in der Generativen Grammatiktheorie. Im Folgenden sollen die Annahmen Chomskys dargestellt werden, so wie sie seit , nachdem der Aufsatz A minimalist program for linguistic theory veröffentlicht wurde, bestanden haben. Dabei soll auf Grundlegendes des Programms Bezug genommen werden, das die Wissenschaft bis heute rezipiert hat. Angesichts dessen werden Problemkreise angesprochen werden, die eben dafür sorgen, dass das MP den Status einer Theorie noch nicht erlangt hat. Vorwiegend anhand von Beispielen des Deutschen sollen Erklärungen folgen, die zum Verständnis des Gedankengangs beitragen. Jedoch ist dies nicht immer möglich. Deswegen sind Belege aus anderen Sprachen, zum Beispiel dem Englischen teilweise unverzichtbar.
