Case Studies in Biomedical Research Ethics

Case Studies in Biomedical Research Ethics

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Murphy, Timothy F., PUBLISHER: MIT Press (MA), This textbook for instruction in biomedical research ethics can also serve as a valuable reference for medical professionals and bioethicists. The 149 cases included in the book are grouped in nine chapters, each of which covers a key area of debate in the field. Some of the case studies are classics, including the famous cases of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study (in which subjects with syphilis were not given treatment) and the Willowbrook hepatitis studies (in which institutionalized subjects were intentionally exposed to hepatitis). Others focus on such current issues as human embryonic stem cell research, cloning by somatic nuclear transfer, and the design and function of institutional review boards. Each chapter begins with a brief introduction that places the issues raised in context; this is followed by a number of cases (each of which is no more than a few pages). Study questions meant to encourage further discussion follow each case. After an introductory discussion of the history and tenets of ethics in medical research, the book's chapters cover oversight and study design; informed consent; the selection of subjects; conflicts of interest; the social effects of research; embryos, fetuses, and children; genetic research; the use of animals; and authorship and publication. Following these chapters are appendixes with the texts of the Nuremburg Code and the Declaration of Helsinki, two key documents in the establishment of bioethical standards for research. Also included are a glossary, a table of cases by general category, and an alphabetical listing of cases.

Dog training case studies needed in Abingdon

Dog training case studies needed in Abingdon

My name is Gillian Woodley and I am currently training as a dog psychologist. I am offering assessments, rehabilitation and training for your dog at a nominal rate while I gain experience. My rate is £15 for the first hour and then £10 there after. Usual prices for 1:1 dog psychology are £ per hour. Dog psychology is teaching you to have a relationship with your dog as the leader, through trust and respect, exercise, discipline and affection, rules, boundaries and limitations. These methods are those as seen on the TV show The Dog Whisperer. It is a fair way of training from the dog's perspective. A year and a half a go I got a rescue Boxer x Mastiff. She has opened my world up in many ways, including teaching me about myself. When we got her at six months old we were her fourth home and she was afraid of other dogs. She would cower and then as she got older she would growl and lunge. It was at this point that I got the knowledge bug and binge watched The Dog Whisperer. I applied many of the techniques and Billie is much better-although still a work in progress. I have a psychology degree from Oxford Brookes. I am currently working in a boarding kennels to broaden my experience of different breeds, temperaments and conditions. I have completed Level 1 and 2 dog psychology with The UK Dog Whisperer. I believe that no problem is unresolvable and that through dog psychology I can help to change yours and your dogs lives. Please email me for more details or to arrange a phone call. Thanks Gillian Woodley

Upper Elementary Reading Lessons: Case Studies of Real

Upper Elementary Reading Lessons: Case Studies of Real

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Chambliss, Marilyn J. / Valli, Linda, PUBLISHER: Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, Inc., Engaging students in worthwhile learning requires more than a knowledge of underlying principles of good teaching. It demands considerable practice as well as images of what good teaching in particular situations and for particular purposes might look like. This volume provides these images. These cases were written from authentic, unrehearsed lessons taught by upper-elementary classroom teachers to diverse groups of real students in intact classrooms. Each lesson contains elements of sound instructional practice from which both preservice and in-service teachers can benefit. Cases are not meant to be ideal, but rather to evoke ways of seeing and thinking about good classroom instruction for all learners. Accompanied by analytic commentaries from experts representing a particular perspective, such as special education and ESOL, these unrehearsed cases are written with the understanding that teaching is complex and multi-dimensional. The cases are drawn from a four-year study of 4th and 5th grade mathematics instruction of culturally diverse classrooms with relatively high rates of students from low-income families.
