Vintage/Antique Brass Carbide Lamp

A Vintage/Antique Brass Carbide Lamp, by Joseph Lucas Ltd. It says Lucus Cadet Garda on the top & Joseph Lucas Ltd Patented Birmingham on the steel bracket at the back. Also No 133D. I don't know if it's just for a bike or also a motorcyle. It has both a red & green side lantern. The red side lantern has its own side door, which freely opens. Perhaps it was used in the wartime blackouts, as there is some paint on the front glass. The front glass is broken. I am told these are easy to replace, as it's held in by a brass wire ring. The front lense slides out easily. The part where the flame would come from wobbles & is loose. I'm not sure whether this is normal or needs soldering. The bottom has some expected dints & dents due to the age. It would benefit from a polish. The large internal reflector has some surface corrosion, so will need cleaning up. I can't see any obvious yesteryear repairs. I have been told it was likely to have been made between . Please study images & do your own research. Can post at extra cost. I bought this new in Paris around . It has had very little use during holidays in France and around the garden. I doubt that it has done more than 50 miles in its lifetime. It has been laid up for about the last 10 year and was dry stored. It has always been garaged an As you can see in the photos it is in good condition. There are a few rust spots on the wheel rim commensurate with its age but it is very sound as when it was laid up it was throughly oiled and greased to protect it. I recommissioned it today, out in some fresh fuel and it quickly kicked into life. Reputably the solex does 200mpg as any unburnt fuel returns to the tank. The Solex was first produced in the early 40's and have changed very little over the last 70 yrs. It will tootal along at 15 mph and attract inquisitive attention.   ANCIENT ROMAN CLAY OIL LAMP (circa 1st

Ancient roman clay oil lamp depicting a cherub. Possibly 1st century, in very good condition 10cm x 7cm Oil lamps were one of the most common household items of ancient times. Lamps were used as early as the Stone Age. Clay lamps like this one were used all over the Mediterranean area from B.C. through the Middle Ages. They were used to burn oil, usually a plant oil such as olive oil that was abundant. Archaeologists find fewer lamps in areas like Britain, because oil was scarce and expensive there. The lamp used a wick, made from fibers such as linen or papyrus, that was inserted into the body of the lamp. The end of the wick rested in the nozzle. The oil was poured into the lamp though the filling hole on top of its body. The wick was lit and a small flame was emitted from the tip of the wick resting in the nozzle. The lamp could be set on any flat surface but was also portable and could be carried in a person's hand. Aside from their basic functional use for indoor and outdoor illumination, lamps also served other purposes. They were buried in tombs and graves along with pottery, jewelry, and other symbolic gifts. They could also be dedicated as votive offerings to gods and goddesses in temples and sanctuaries.
