Campione d'Italia, – Coat of arms, second print run – Complete series (Sassone series 1) – On registered mail with interesting journey – Unique item in perfect condition: (Campione d'Italia is a municipality of the Province of Como in the Lombardy region of Italy, and an exclave surrounded by the Swiss canton of Ticino.) Since its stamps aren't recognized by the UPU (Universal Postal Union), they can't be used to send mail abroad, and are valid only for local postage or for mail sent to Switzerland or the Principality of Liechtenstein. Travelling post offices were not allowed to provides services to the public and so it was not possible to use them to send a registered letter. However, if letters were found in the boxes that were outside of the car or in special boxes in the stations, with postage rate corresponding to a registered letter, these were registered as such, although it was not possible to deliver a receipt to the sender.In addition, the correspondence which they suspected might contain valuables were sent by registered mail, and taxed accordingly.In any case, they are always extremely rare items.The lot offered is a postcard from 16 September sent to Sorrento, coming from "the Buca di Venezia" (handwritten on the side), where it was found with the postage corresponding to registered mail (35 cents) and as such was treated and forwarded to its destination via the Pontebba-Bologna Travelling Post Office.To the best of my knowledge, to date, this is one of only two registered notes of this kind originating from an Italian Travelling Post Office in the 19th century. A thick, old and used stock book with approx. 150 air mail letters/covers from approx. . A lot is from the s and s. Most of the covers/air mail letters have been transported by Interflug, Lufthansa and KLM. There are also some flights of other countries present which have been shipped by other companies.The air mail items often look decorative and are frequently nicely stamped and equipped with all kinds of stamps. Also some foreign mail. (The Netherlands)Multiple air mail items have really been used and thus they were used as a correspondence object.
