  + AUTHENTIC Byzantine/Arab ic VI-VIII AD

AUTHENTIC Byzantine/Arabic VI-VIII AD Lot of 4 GLASS Exagia Exagium DUG Here is an authentic lot of four Byzantine or Arabian early Medieval Exagiae Circa VI-VIII century AD All made of hand blown glass Different colors - Cobalt, Aquamarine, Olive and Black Such weight measures were introduced in Byzantium from circa early VI c. A.D. as a standard for their gold coin - Solidus (4.55 g) and its fractions, i.e. Semis (1/2 Solidi or g) and Tremis (1/3 Solidi or g). Later on this practice passed on to Arabs as a possible standard to their gold coins - the Dirham s The weight of each exagia in this lot is as follows: The far left one - 9.1 g (i.e. 2 Solidi); The second from left - 5.2 g; The third from left - 2.6 g; The one on right - 15.2 g (i.e. 3 Solidi & 1 Tremis) From what is said above one may infer that the far left and the far right ones (i.e. the two larger) are of Byzantine origin, while the two smaller are of Arabic mint WE FULLY GUARANTEE THE AUTHENTICITY OF THIS LOT!!! Measurements:  Approx.  Cobalt Blue: 1.2" or 32 mm  diameter  Aquamarine Blue/Green: 1.15" x 1" or 30 x 25 mm Olive Green: 0.8" x 0.6" or 23 mm x 19 mm Black/Grey: 1.25" or 32 mm diameter  Condition:  Please see photos below! Ref.: RIC mm, 3.21 grams.Provenance: collection Dr. Rainer Pudill, Germany."Dafne" on the reverse side probably refers to the Greek word for "laurel(wreath)", symbol of victory. This victory would be defeating Licinius in the battle of Chrysopolis in 324. Victoria is holding a laurel wreath (not noticed by RIC), which is an unusual variation in her iconography.
