My daughters tropical fish (platys) have had babies and we are desperately looking for new homes for them as we are unable to keep them. They vary between 4-8 weeks old. Variety of markings and colours. We bought 6 female platys but they must have been pregnant when bought or we have a rogue boy in the mix! We are fairly new to this fish keeping lark and really need to find homes for these little ones as we are unable to keep them. They are not fully grown and can reach upto 10cm. Keeping Dalmation Molly's is easy, they can be kept as long as the aquarium they are in has stable parameters, avoiding harmful elements, feed them high quality food, and only house with acceptable tank mates including other Mollies, Guppies, Platys, Swordtails, Gourami fish, Female Bettas, Endlers, Danios, Minnows, Tetras, Barbs, Snails, Shrimp and others. These Dalmation Molly species of fish are very active, they love interesting tank set ups and are constantly playing, lot's of character. It is important that the pH, temperature and water hardness stay stable. As long as the parameters are stable, Dalmation Molly's will flourish in your aquarium. Key Facts: Temperature ~76°F The optimum aquarium temperature for Dalmation Mollies is around 75°F - 81°F (24°C-27°C). They can withstand temperatures as low as ) degrees but at the cost of immunity to disease. pH ~7.5 | Hardness 10+ Keep your pH between about 7 and 8. Dalmation Molly's prefer neutral water qualities, tap water is usually suitable, as long as you ensure you dechlorinate it. Water hardness should be 10dH+. Nitrite 0ppm Nitrite should always be kept at 0. Ammonia 0ppm Dalmation Molly's are sensitive to ammonia spikes. They may lose colour and breathe rapidly. Ensure you're Ammonia levels are always 0. Nitrate >40ppm Nitrates should always be as close to 0ppm as possible. Any reading under 40ppm is suitable for keeping Dalmation Molly's. Adding plants and weekly water changes can help to keep nitrates low. Water Changes 30% Ideally the aquarium water should be changed at least 30% every week. A dechlorinate solution is a necessity as Dalmation Molly's can be sensitive to chlorine and heavy metals. It is a good idea to prepare the water a few days before and let the water 'age' with the de-chlorinator. This is to ensure any toxic compounds such as chlorine are able to break down and be removed.
