Magnificent Persian rug: Mir Sarouk, cm, circa
Welcome to Passion d'Orient:The town of Sarouk is located in the central region of Iran, approximately 40 km north of Sultanabad. Carpet production in this area rose sharply towards the end of the 19th century as a result of considerable export demand that stemmed, at the time, from the booming activity at the Ziegler company, whose headquarters were in neighbouring Sultanabad. The sturdiness of the structure, the elegance of the design and the harmony of the colours, which are chosen from amongst the softest and most subtle shades, made Sarouk rugs one of the most exported carpet grades β to the West and especially the United States β during the 20th century. Their asymmetrical type of knot allows for a rather high density level.
